Your Rating. Overview . Antonín Dvořáks String Sextet in A major, Op. 80 for two violins, two violas and two cellos was composed for the most part in May 1878. It was Dvořák's first work to be premiered outside Bohemia. The period 1875-1879 was very important in Dvořák's life. The composer received government grants in that time, which enabled him to concentrate solely on composing. A sense of responsibility led him to hard and prolific work, and one of the results of his activity was the String Sextet. The Sextet is a live album by the jazz saxophonist Cannonball Adderley recorded in 1962-63 but not released by the Milestone label until 1982 and featuring performances by Adderley with Nat Adderley, Yusef Lateef, Joe Zawinul, Sam Jones and Louis Hayes recorded in San Francisco and Japan. The album features previously unreleased performances from the Jazz Workshop residency that produced Jazz Workshop Revisited and from the Japanese concerts that produced Nippon Soul.
