Hum is a musical statement establishing Sawako as one of the foremost practitioners of blending field recordings with carefully constructed passages of digitally manipulated sounds. With the epic Cloud No Crowd which could easily best anything on Kompakt's highly successful Pop Ambient series, Sawako subtly welds together elements of the organic with the synthetic, wasting no time in establishing a fragility and beauty that are often lacking in the harsh world of processed music. Cloud No Crowd NYCTokyo sound artist Sawako has recently made a name for herself with her own unique combination of field recordings and DSP combined with noticeably feminine touch. It is this strong use of both mediums that makes her hard to classify or neatly tucked away into a specific genre. While Hum is primarily a soft, ambient album, Sawako is obviously hinting at much more beneath the surface. Hum Tum was the fourth studio album of the Pakistani band Vital Signs released in January 1995. This was the last studio album released by the band after which Junaid Jamshed, vocalist of the band, went on to pursue a career as a solo singer, Shehzad Hasan, bassist, concentrated on his work as a music producer and Rohail Hyatt, keyboards, formed a production company

  • Sawako's HUM starts with the delicate confection of "Pink Liquid Cotton Candy," but the other tracks hang in the air like dust motes. The long abstraction of "Rush," for instance, is like standing alone on an ice floe, while "Incense Of Voice" brings in a few fleeting moments of vocal textures. But it's the harmonics on "White Sky Winter Chicada" the speak the loudest and the most beautifully, as does the long, sustained guitar tones on "Cloud No Crowd." A blissful experience.
