Lindsey Buckingham mentioned a goal of punching out of the Fleetwood Mac microcosm in 1984, the same year his second solo album arrived. I'm trying to break down preconceptions about what pop music is, Buckingham told Rolling Stone. I'm struggling to be original. But Go Insane showed Buckingham meant all that stuff about going your own way. There's an axiom which is, if it works, beat it into the ground, Buckingham told MTV , and I don't buy that. I think you have to be responsible to your own needs as an artist. You can't shoot for the stardom, per se. You've got to shoot for the quality of the work, and the growth. • Honestly, one of the most idiosyncratic and uncompromisingly brilliant pop albums of all time, and sadly underappreciated in 2011. This is the product of a very individual mind and talent. Great songs, amazing playing, thoroughly eye-opening production, it sounds like crystal shattered into bizarrely perfect form. Every song is like a different facet, from the singles "Slow Dancing" and "Go Insane" to the album's closer, Lindsey's Dennis Wilson (Beach Boys) tribute "D.W. Suite". Check this album out if you like the arty-but-hummable side of Talking Heads or Peter Gabriel in the '80s, the weirder side of Fleetwood Mac... honestly, this needs to be remastered (carefully, NOT all compressed and loud) and reissued in deluxe form with the various import-only remixes available (the "Extended Mixes" of "Go Insane", "Slow Dancing", the promo-only dub version of "Go Insane", and any demos that L.B. had floating around at the time...maybe some live tracks; these would all be welcome.)

  • My sentiments exactly!...can't believe how much I can buy this CD for now....it is without doubt a small piece of 80's gold!!...sadly he has always been overshadowed by Stevie much to his own loathing and disgust, I don't think he will ever get over that!, and I can't blame him!!.

  • Couldn't agree any more. An under-appreciated masterpiece from an under-appreciated master. I'd give my right arm to have it remastered, but I doubt we'll ever see/hear it.
